  • A row of Theves Poplar planted along a property line

    Theves Poplar

Description: Fast Growing Privacy & Windbreak Tree. The Theves Poplar is a fast growing deciduous tree. Plant a few to accent the entrance of your home or perhaps post some as sentries along your driveway. They also make an excellent privacy hedge. Theves Poplar can grow more than six feet in the first year! It can reach 80 feet at maturity with a 10 foot spread. It grows in a dramatic manner, with a narrow upright thrust like a spire reaching into the sky. A charming feature of Theves Poplar is that the oval dark green leaves have a silvery underside. This creates a flashing effect in the breeze that will draw your eye from wherever you’re standing in your yard. The bark of Theves Poplar also has an ornamental quality with its whitish hue that is especially attractive in the winter when the leaves have gone. The autumn color is yellow & stands out because of the tall columnar effect of the tree. Theves Poplar is a hybrid of the Lombardy Poplar. It’s hardier and has superior longevity to the Lombardy, living up to 80 years. It resists many more diseases and insects too, and is tolerant of many conditions. If you have allergy sufferers in your home, they’ll especially appreciate its pollen-free nature. For a Poplar with a variety of unique features above and beyond the usual Poplar trees, the Theves is an outstanding choice. Fast-Growing, Long-lived, Ornamental features, Extremely hardy.

    Showy Mountain Ash

Description: Mountain ash berries, also commonly known as rowan berries, are the fruit of the showy mountain ash (Sorbus decora). In the rose family, mountain ash isn’t actually an ash at all, which is the genus Fraxinus, though the leaves are somewhat similar.

Other names include service tree, quickbeam, and dogberry. European folklore ascribed magical powers to the rowan tree, leading to its moniker “witch tree.” You’ll find artisans using rowanberries in handcrafted protective charms. Rowan berries have long been used as food and medicine.
